چکیده

Grant, D. B., Hambley, J., Becker, D., and Pimstone, B. L. (1973). Archives of Disease in Childhood, 48, 596. Reduced sulphation factor in undernourished children. Serum sulphation factor (SF) activity was estimated in serial samples from 5 children with protein-calorie malnutrition. Serum growth hormone (HGH), albumin, and transferrin were also measured. SF activity was reduced at the time of admission, but had risen in all patients by the ninth day of treatment. While serum HGH fell during treatment, there was no obvious relation between the changes in SF and HGH in each patient. Serum albumin rose during treatment and showed a correlation with the changes in serum SF. The pattern of recovery in serum transferrin was also similar to that shown by SF.

The relationship between undernutrition and humoral immune status in children with pneumonia in Papua New Guinea.

Malnutrition is a significant risk factor for childhood infectious diseases in developing countries, including Papua New Guinea (PNG). Whilst the mechanisms are not fully understood there is little doubt that impairment of immune function is a major contributing factor in enhancing disease susceptibility in malnourished children. This susceptibility has been clearly shown for pneumonia in PNG. ...

Intestinal dipeptide hydrolase activities in undernourished children.

Kumar, V., Ghai, 0. P., and Chase, H. P. (1971). Archives of Disease in Childhood, 46, 801. Intestinal dipeptide hydrolase activities in undernourished children. Intestinal dipeptide hydrolase enzymes cleave dipeptides into amino acids. In 8 undernourished children with diarrhoea, mean intestinal mucosal glyclyl-proline hydrolase activity was reduced 40%, valyl-proline hydrolase activity 38%, a...

The Journal of Nutrition Nutrient Requirements and Optimal Nutrition Lysine Requirements of Moderately Undernourished School-Aged Indian Children Are Reduced by Treatment for Intestinal Parasites as Measured by the Indicator Amino Acid Oxidation Technique

Background: Lysine requirements of well-nourished children from developing regions have been found to be similar to those of children from developed regions (33.5 mg kg d). However, intestinal parasites have been shown to increase lysine requirements in undernourished adults, and it is not known if a similar phenomenon occurs in undernourished children from poor and unsanitary environments. Obj...

Urinary N-methylnicotinamide and β-aminoisobutyric acid predict catch-up growth in undernourished Brazilian children.

Enteric infections, enteropathy and undernutrition in early childhood are preventable risk factors for child deaths, impaired neurodevelopment, and later life metabolic diseases. However, the mechanisms linking these exposures and outcomes remain to be elucidated, as do biomarkers for identifying children at risk. By examining the urinary metabolic phenotypes of nourished and undernourished chi...

Undernourished Children and Milk Lactose.

BACKGROUND Lactose is an important energy source in young mammals, and in fully breast-fed human infants, it constitutes around 40% of the total daily energy intake. The role of lactose in feeding of undernourished infants and young children is not well described. OBJECTIVE A narrative review of the potential positive and negative effects of lactose in the treatment of undernourished children...
